Changed My Mind

Walking to the polling place, I changed my mind and decided to write in Paul Ryan. That is what I felt like doing today. I wasn’t feeling that way before.

I think what influenced me was a column predicting that the Republican Party after the election is likely to split between the populists who support Trump and the non-populists who support Ryan. My mood affiliation today was with non-populists.

By the way, there was no line at all at the polls. That is because our precinct when nuts for early voting–lines were out the wazoo the first few days of that.

  1. I think the biggest disappointment was Gary Johnson in 2016. He really should have gotten 10% of vote and won a state. However, with more media attention in 2016 he really sucked. And considering how poorly Rand did in the R Primary, it looks the libertarian moment has passed for the next few years.

I still think the libertarian needs to focus on how big military and wars leads to big government while looking to cut taxes FOR all citizens.

    • I was supporting Johnson early, but became worried when he picked Weld for his running mate. Then he ran such a goofy, unprepared campaign. I ended up writing in Laurence Kotlikoff, who was a qualified write-in candidate in all 50 states. Curious to see what is final vote total is.

    • Are the quality of candidates being attracted to the top of the libertarian ticket trending up or down?

  2. Did Kling ever explain his opposition to Trump? I thought he would at least like the push back on the dominance of the left.

  3. You vote for electors, not candidates, Paul Ryan has no electors pledged to him in the event he gets enough votes to acquire one. That is not the case for McMullin or Johnson or Stein or Maturen in the state of Maryland.

Whatever, voting is a highly irrational process and people do all sorts of selfish things with their votes, but personally I don’t think you acted in manner you’d want everyone to vote.

  4. I like the rationalization that one is voting Pence for President – President of the Senate.

    • Btw, someone tell Ryan to hire me. Trump knows that it is just a “radio beef,” kayfabe, etc. I can help Ryan become the useful foil.

        • Trump ain’t prosecuting Hillary, he ain’t building no wall, and Paul Ryan can be his Rosy O’Donnell. I simply offer to help him be in on the gag 🙂

          • Ryan’s problem, in my estimation, is not that he is an establishment hack, but that he wants to be a detail wonk.

That is the photographic negative of Trump, but not a natural enemy.
